Norma June 8th 2021
I’m Barb Dolan, Norma’s daughter in-law. Norma has been a big part of my life for 45 years.
It saddens my heart losing her.
I remember the first time I met Norma even before I met her son Dick. She was doing some sewing for my friend, Dick’s cousin, Charlotte. As I walked up her driveway I see this birdcage hanging in her favorite beechnut tree, with a Robin in it. It had been hurt and Norma was nursing it back to health. ( I think she even named it Roberta). I thought what a amazing thing to try and save that bird.. I’m pretty sure that is where she got the nickname Mother Nature from.
I finally did meet Dick and she welcomed me into the family. Even though I was extremely shy and quiet, she tried her hardest to bring me out of my shell, and never gave up on me.
She was a perfectionist, in her sewing and crafts, her gardens and her home and in her family.
She was an expert knitter be it by hand or machine, she would make the grandchildren amazing sweaters. Each sweater was made just for that grandchild’s interests. Rather it be Horses or Cats, Football or Tractors and definitely hunting. So much thought and Love went into each sweater.
She Loved her children more than anything. I never saw it more than when we got to see her at the nursing home when she was getting so bad.
The look on her face when she looked at Doreen was pure Love.
Norma gave me my best friend, a wonderful husband, and the best Father our Sons could ever have wished for.
I told her she had the biggest part in making Dick and all those wonderful things he was.
Even though she lived here in NY for many years. Salem Ma. was always her home. She talked about it all the time. She missed the Ocean, the City and the Family there.
She never totally lost her Massachusetts accent. The kids always thought it funny when Grandma spoke about planning to have or going to a potty!! And I will miss the confusion on peoples faces when she would speak of me as her daughter in-law Bobbie!!
She made Holidays fun and exciting for her grandchildren. And had a tree in her window decorated for each Holiday most all year.
All those small and large ways Norma touched our lives , she will be missed by us all.
But I like to think of her as the Robin she tried to save in that cage!
Norma’s cage is open now!
She is once again healthy and happy and having a Potty with her
Son, Husband, Brother, Grandson and everyone she had loved and lost before her,
She has now found!
With Love
Barb Dolan

Doreen and family,
Aunt Norma was one of the strongest woman we knew. She loved her family and always had a good word for all. We always loved hearing from her and sharing stories of family history. I will always remember the summer vacations we would spend with her and the family. Memories that will last a lifetime. A true beautiful angel on earth, she is now with Uncle Chuck, Dick, and Kevin. We will miss her.
Love
Al and Linda
