Obituary of George Gordon Rhodes, Sr.

(Newfane) G. Gordon Rhodes, Sr. age 96 died August 1, 2021 at Eastern Niagara Hospital following a short illness.  He was born September 3, 1924 in Somerset, a son of the late L. Henry and Leona (Wass) Rhodes.

Gordon enjoyed bowling, fishing, gardening and family reunions.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Barker, Hess Road Wesleyan Church and a long- time contributor to the Quaker Road United Methodist Church.  Gordon drove truck for White’s Transportation in Lockport, retiring after 31 years.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Myrna (Stover) Rhodes; brothers Louis and Daniel Rhodes; sister Onalee Wilson.  He is survived by his children G. Gordon (Betty) Rhodes, Jr., AJ (Henry) Rhodes-Stegeman, H. Alan Rhodes, Sr., K. Joyce (Thomas, Sr.) Marchiole, Richard (Renee) Rhodes, Bonnie (Mike) Difino, LouAnne (Luis) Flores; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; sisters Ella (Earl) Dickinson, Eleanor (David) Barclay; brother Keith (Sharon) Rhodes as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends at the Sherrie Bream Funeral Home, 4521 Main St., Gasport, Sunday August 8th 1:00pm-4:00pm, followed by a Masonic Service at 4pm.  Calling hours will be held Monday August 9th 10:00am-11:00am where his Funeral Service will follow at 11:00am.  Burial at Hartland Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas TX, 75231.
