Aunt Helen was my earliest caretaker other than my parents and helped me with my daughter. She got a lot of people off to a good start. Thanks! You will be greatly missed! Love, Jeanne

Our deepest sympathy for the loss of your Mom. What a wonderful person and very special human being. I am sure she is in heaven sharing her wonderful wit, humor and loving ways. She was a pleasure to know and a delight to be with. When we had the tree farm she knew I was an avid kntter. She would be short of one color or another and come flying in our driveway to retrieve it. She will always have a special place in my heart. God bless

Aunt Helen was our family's last member of the Greatest Generation and during W.W. II she was a "Rosie the Riveter". She was also our family's Genealogist many years before ancestry.com was ever thought of. R.I.P. Aunt Helen

To the entire Mathes family, My sincere sympathy goes out to each and every one of you. I hope you find comfort in the memories you share with each other. I feel very lucky to have spent a weekend on the farm when dad and mom were both there. A big warm hug to you all!

I will miss talking to Helen. She was my cousin as her late mother was a brother to my late father (Charles Seivert)

I am sorry to hear of Helen's death. She was such a great support to me, while I was writing some key chapters in my book about my Mother's (Winifred Amis Dobson) childhood in Barre Center. Helen and Lillian Bennett were my early readers and Helen provided many facts and figures, as well as her candid opinion on the authenticity of my stories. It meant a great deal to me and it was fun to meet her in person when Tony, my husband, and I visited Lillian in 2007, while on a one year RV tour of the USA. We had a delightful visit to the Mathes' Farm. Tony enjoyed his tour of the farm with David in his old pick up that included so much interesting information about how farming has changed over the years! I have heard Tony tell any number of people what he learned from David that day. And, I had the thrill of riding on the most humongous tractor we had ever seen up close with one of Helen's nice grandson's. I will miss hearing from Helen on e mail now and then. She was intelligent, warm, and amazingly engaged in the world for her age. She was especially proud of all of her grandchildren and the fact that the farm has remained in the family for over 100 years, I believe. I know you will miss her a great deal, but, of course, it is the natural order of things and you can now think of them together again forever in heaven. I know she missed him a great deal. Thank you so much for letting me know of her death. I truly appreciate that kindness, especially when you, no doubt, have been busy with all kinds of arrangements. Warm Regards, Joy Dobson Way Ashland, Oregon

To the Mathes Family, I was sorry to hear of your Mom's death. I can remember having lunch at the farm when I had come to spend the day playing with Patty. I was amazed that Helen had 11 or 12 people there to eat, and it didn't seem to be any big deal to her. I'm sure that wasn't the first time she had that many people to feed. Even though that was over 40 years ago, I can still remember it. Helen lived a long life and leaves behind many memories for her family. May they bring you comfort in the coming days. With sympathy, Bonnie (Hudson) Bowman.
